On the 20th of December I will spend the Christmas period in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on a humanitarian mission with Projects Abroad http://www.projects-abroad.net/. More precisely, I will work in an orphanage based in one of Rio’s many ‘favelas’. My mission will consist of helping out with local community projects in relation to the orphanage as well as teaching basic English to the children. This will be an experience of a lifetime for me. I don’t expect this experience to change the lives of the children or people I will work with, but if this experience can give them at least some hope, well then I will consider my mission a success.
On the occasion of the Christmas Quiz in Paddys Pub and with the support of our super ‘Quiz Meister’ Wayne Salter & Paddys staff, I will seize this opportunity to raise a target of 500€ to finance my trip. The evening will be entertained by Unidos de Genève (www.unidosdegeneve.com), a samba school based in Geneva who will enchant us with rhythms from Brazil, there will also be a raffle (tickets will be sold during the course of the evening, tickets cost 2€ per ticket or 5 for 10€) and the bonus question prizes you will have a choice of having a pint or Caïpirinha……..

As I will be teaching and mostly working with children during my time in Rio I would appreciate that each team member could donate a small toy, crayons, colouring pencils, pens or colouring markers. I will be transporting these materials in my luggage so the less cumbersome the better…..a box will be made available at Paddys for the collection.
